When I was painting the August Offering Project piece, the news was filled with stories about the riot in Charlottesville, so I dedicated this painting in my heart as a prayer that we can move past the fear, hatred and white supremacy that dominates our culture. As I made my wish for us all to have open hearts and feelings of safety and belonging, I was attracted to the color and metaphysical properties of lapis lazuli. Melody, in her book, Love Is In The Earth, calls it, “the stone of total awareness." She goes on to say, “Lapis lazuli enables one to obtain relief from that which has been pressed into the shallow recesses of the mind, providing objectivity, clarity and mental endurance during the release of emotional bondage. It helps to overcome depression and enhances the states of serenity and self-acceptance. It is said to bring success to relationships.”
